Launched in December 2009, the Westchester Green Business Challenge (WGBC) is a joint program of Westchester County Government and the Business Council of Westchester.  The mission is to educate and encourage Westchester County businesses to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) while improving operational performance and saving money. Modeled after the successful Chicago Green Office Challenge developed by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the program was adapted to reflect the unique business profile of Westchester County while addressing the universal issues of energy and water conservation, waste reduction, sustainable land use and transportation (the five areas of focus in the Westchester County Action Plan for Climate Change & Sustainable Development).  For more information on the WGBC, visit

The opportunity for Westchester Green Business members

Thanks to a grant from The Westchester Community Foundation and support from The Greenburgh Nature Center, WGB members are invited to participate in the 2017 Green Business Internship Program. This new benefit was developed to assist members in forwarding your sustainability goals, while offering college students a unique and meaningful work experience.

WGB is actively recruiting undergraduate and graduate-level students currently enrolled in local colleges and universities to apply to one or more of the available internship opportunities (listed below). Prior to beginning the internship, students will participate in a two-day training session at the Greenburgh Nature Center to learn more about the Westchester Green Business program, sample projects and internship expectations.

The internship program will run for 8 to 10 weeks in the summer (June to August) and fall (September to November). WGB will receive all student applications and pre-screen students before sending you candidates. Participating businesses will conduct an in-person interview at their offices prior to making a final decision to hire.

Participation will be limited to 15 spots per session. If you are interested in hiring an intern for either the summer or fall session, please contact Meg Curtin at
