The first step in building or advancing a sustainability program requires committment from:
- Elected officials: It is critical to have the support and active involvement of your elected officials. This ensures the political commitment necessary to achieve your climate protection goals. It also sets the tone and shows support from the top.
- The community: A public commitment in the form of a resolution (see, for example, the Town of Bedford’s Resolution) or a pledge such as the DEC Climate Smart Community Pledge or The Sierra Club’s Cool Cities Campaign will help engage the community and gather support from the beginning.
