Fifty Westchester County business leaders gathered at C.W. Brown, Inc. in Armonk, NY on December 12 for a special preview of Westchester Green Business-Certified. WGB-Certified represents the next phase of the highly successful Westchester Green Business Challenge, a public-private partnership that was created in late 2009 by Westchester County in partnership with The Business Council of Westchester to help Westchester-based organizations “go green.”
WGB-Certified provides members with enhanced tools, training and support to develop and implement a formal program for environmental sustainability that delivers value and measurable results. Companies that become certified will have gone through a valuable and rigorous process resulting in a clear pathway toward environmental sustainability for their organization. They will also benefit from peer to peer collaboration and receive increased recognition for their efforts.
“The launch of Westchester Green Business-Certified marks an exciting expansion of a program that has already attracted over 250 companies and put Westchester on the map as a leader in green economic development,” said Dr. Marsha Gordon, President & CEO of The Business Council of Westchester. “We look forward to welcoming the first class of pilot companies to the certification program and supporting this initiative in the year ahead.”
Dr. Gordon and Renee Brown, President & CEO of C.W. Brown, provided welcoming remarks to the 30+ organizations attending the launch event. Program creators, Scott Fernqvist of Westchester County, Dani Glaser and Jana Petrikova of Green Team Spirit presented program details and invited participants to register as pilot members.
