12/8/17 Leaders in Sustainability Speaker Series: Green Procurement - Choosing Safer Materials for your Business

This final WGB event of 2017 provided guidelines, case studies and information about New York State and other certification programs and opportunities to support the movement to safer materials procurement. Attendees learned how to assess their current chemical use and take common first steps to reduce their toxic chemical footprint. The New York Sustainable Business Council and Clean and Healthy New York led this informational workshop and answered audience questions.

10/20/17 Leaders in Sustainability Speaker Series: Helping Business Adapt to the Impacts of Climate Change

An informative discussion around the impacts of climate change on Westchester and New York State businesses with an eye toward the future and how we can work together to mitigate risks. WGB's distinguished panel of experts  offer diverse perspectives around this important topic and discuss climate change in the context of business resiliency on a scale we can all appreciate given the recent storms and impacts to businesses.

Facilitator: Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, co-chair, New York Library Association Sustainability Initiative Committee & Coordinator for Library Sustainability for the Mid-Hudson Library System

Thanks to a collaboration between the New York Library Association and Westchester Green Business (WGB) any public library in New York State can work with the WGB program to achieve a reduction in energy waste, water, and transportation costs as well as land use and purchasing.

WGB Leaders in Sustainability Speaker Series: HEINEKEN USA Brewing a Better World (BaBW)

Nearly eighty businesses gathered on a snowy March morning at the WGB Leaders in Sustainability Speaker Series to hear from presenter Dayna Adelman, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at HEINEKEN USA, who oversees the U.S. implementation of HEINEKEN's global sustainability platform, Brewing a Better World (BaBW). The event was kicked-off with opening remarks from WGB Program Director, Dani Glaser; WGB partners, John Ravitz, Executive Vice President and COO for The Business Council of Westchester and Kevin Plunkett, Deputy Westchester County Executive; and long-time WGB sponsor, Jane Solnick, Director of Public Affairs Westchester for Con Edison.

Westchester Green Business Industry Roundtable for Real Estate Leaders

Industry roundtables provide an opportunity for business leaders to learn about and share current sustainable practices with industry peers.  Working together can have a formidable impact on driving sustainable operations across an industry. The real estate industry is uniquely positioned to make a significant impact, influencing building owners, property managers and tenants alike. This event included representatives from a diverse cross-section of real estate industry firms. The discussion covered industry trends such as green leasing, building management systems, renewable energy, and landlord-tenant relations.

Includes welcoming remarks by Business Council of Westchester President Dr. Marsha Gordon, Westchester Green Business program announcements by Dani Glaser (including the unveiling of a new program logo) and presentation by Brad Tito of NYSERDA about the NYS Cleaner Greener Communities grant that was awarded to the Westchester Green Business program and where it fits into New York State's strategy for sustainable development, known as “Reforming the Energy Vision” (REV).

This inaugural 2016-2017 WGBC speaker series event featured organizational leaders who are transforming their communities through a commitment to environmental and social sustainability. The program explored the impact that sustainable practices have on local communities, including customers, suppliers, residents and fellow businesses.  Being aware of your community impact and how you manage your relationships and activities is key to corporate social responsibility and becoming a Westchester Green Business-Certified organization.

Westchester's business leaders gathered to discuss Green Jobs and strategies for Growing the Green Workforce in Westchester County, New York. Over the years there has been a great deal of confusion over what is meant by the terms “green job” and “green company.”  WGBC Program Director Scott Fernqvist set the stage and led an expert panel to examine the topic in depth.
